Each LEAP scholar must complete six of the following activities to fulfill one of the requirements of the LEAP program. After participating in each activity, the participant will prepare a short report (format to be discussed in meetings).

  • Attend a District Board of Trustees meetings - click here for dates and locations
  • Interview two administrators at Palm Beach State College - using questions you develop, interview an administrator at Palm Beach State College. Possible topics include their view of leadership, their own career path, and their view of the community college's role in education.
  • Interview two administrators at another community college - using questions you develop, interview an administrator at another local community college. Possible topics include their view of leadership, their own career path, and their view of the community college's role in education.
  • Community College Legislation - Select three community college education bills and follow their progress during the legislative session. Bills are typically filed in September-November. The Florida Senate web site (http://www.flsenate.gov) provides search tools to find community college related bills.
  • Attend a Provost Council/Campus Dean Meeting - prepare a report on your experiences and reflections on the meeting.
  • Prepare an annotated bibliography of ten articles - Using education journals and publications, prepare an annotated bibliography of 10 articles. Publications you may want to look at include the Chronicle, Community College Times, Community College Week, the Community College Journal of Research and Practice, and New Directions for Community Colleges.   • Attend a faculty cluster meeting- Faculty teaching in similar disciplines meet at least twice a semester, typically at the beginning of the semester and on development day. Click here for more information on clusters and their meetings.
  • Attend an Interinstitutional Articulation Meeting - Palm Beach State College  staff meets with representatives from the School District of Palm Beach County and Florida Atlantic University several times during the year to discuss issues that affect all three institutions in student articulation.   • Attend a Curriculum Committee Meeting - The Curriculum Committee is the recommending body for all curriculum changes at Palm Beach State College. The committee meets monthly from September through April (except December). Click here for meeting dates.
  • Attend a Diversity Committee meeting - The Diversity Committee discusses issues relating to diversity for both students and college staff. Click here for the Palm Beach State College Diversity web site.
  • Attend a Student Activities Budget Meeting - This committee, comprised of Palm Beach State College staff and students, meets to discuss how student fees should be budgeted.
  • Palm Beach State College Demographics - Learn more about Palm Beach State College through a summary of the College's comprehensive enrollment report, Panorama. Click here to access the Panorama web page.
  • Student Interviews - Conduct a focus group of Palm Beach State College students to see how satisfied students are with their experience at Palm Beach State College. For insight on how to conduct a focus group, click here.
  • Proprietary School Visitations - Visit two local proprietary schools and compare their services to Palm Beach State College. Click here for a checklist you may choose to use to guide your comparisons.
  • Front Line Personnel Interviews - Interview a College Information Center employee to discover what kinds of questions students and potential students ask.

Other activities not listed here may only be completed with prior permission of the LEAP co-chairs.
