How important or useful is S.E.N.S.E. certification compared to a regular welding certification?

The S.E.N.S.E. certificate is more widely recognized and can be verified via web site and/or call to American Welding Society or the school you tested at. The S.E.N.S.E. Code Curriculum spells out to employers the actual job skills covered by your certification. An employer can certify you to their specific code or shop process using AWS, ASME, Military Standard, and others. This makes an S.E.N.S.E. certification portable. You take it with you from job to job or state to state.

Should I consider a school based heavily on what S.E.N.S.E. ratings it offers?

Not solely, but the higher the rating offered, the further you can go.

When can I start?

Classes begin in August and take less than a year. There are no classes during winter or spring breaks. Check the college academic calendar for exact dates or call Larry Rutkowski 561-868-3547.

Are you able to take all applicants, or is admission limited?

Class size is limited to 12 students. Apply and register early.

Will it be easy to find a job?

We receive many employer inquiries. There are many job opportunities for welders in Florida. We have a career center on campus where students can go for help with resumes and searching for the right job.

How much will I make?

The Department of Labor web site lists the average wage for a basic welder in Palm Beach County as $30,160. However, welders in more advanced careers such as Boilermakers average $49,560 annually, Structural Steel Workers $33,580 and advanced Aviation Structural Welder/mechanic is $44,490.

Do I need to buy tools or equipment?

Basically you can not wear shorts or short sleeves when entering the welding lab and safety glasses are required. Your schedule/receipt should detail what exactly you need to bring. Most required tools and equipment will be supplied to.
