Section 6A, State Board of Education

Following are the subsections of Section 6A, which deals with the function of the State Board of Education, school districts, community colleges and universities in greater detail:

6A-1, Finance and Administration, contains regulations related to accounting, budgets, attendance, and the administration of schools and school districts.

6A-3, Transportation, deals with rules and responsibilities related to busing students.

6A-4, Certification, concerns qualifications and certification for teachers and administrators.

6A-5, Approving Programs of Teacher Education, contains rules and requirements on pre-service and in-service training programs.

6A-6, Special Programs I, covers adult general education; disabled, gifted and other exceptional student programs; dropout prevention; vocational and workforce development standards; and limited English proficiency.

6A-7, Special Programs II, primarily covers food service programs and instructional materials.

6A-10, Miscellaneous, concerns, as the title implies, a wide range of rules and regulations. Interestingly, much of the FAC dealing with community colleges and higher education, in general, can be found in this section.

6A-14, Community Colleges. The section dealing with community colleges is actually only 16 pages long, as much of it has been repealed or transferred to other parts of the education code. However, this section still contains an array of rules and regulations particular to the business, academic and student service operations of the community college.

6A-16, Organization and Rules of Procedure, covers procedures for indexing and providing access to orders issued by the Department of Education.

6A-19, Educational Equity, provides rules preventing discrimination in educational facilities and activities.

6A-20, Student Financial Assistance, provides detailed rules and eligibility requirements for various postsecondary financial aid programs offered by the state.

6A-22, Reemployment Services - Workers' Compensation, details regulations related to returning to work after a job-related injury.

6A-23, Apprenticeship Programs, establishes the standards and procedures that safeguard apprentices.
