Chapter 6: Education

This site deals primarily with those parts of the FAC related to the operation of community colleges. Follow the links provided for more information on each area.

Sections 6-1 to 6-7, Department of Education
This section deals with code related to the state Department of Education. This section is only seven pages long, as many of the rules dealing with education at the state level are in the next section. In fact, the only things here related to the DOE are rules and regulations concerning graduation requirements for certain disabled students, educational facilities and food service.

Section 6A, State Board of Education
This section provides the bulk of the rules for how colleges, schools and school districts are to be run. For the most part, these sections apply mainly to the K-12 system. Those which deal in depth with community college issues are highlighted with links to smaller files containing only that section of the FAC.

Section 6B, Educational Practices Commission
This area contains the organization of the commission in addition to the state's code of ethics for educators and rules regarding professional assessment, standards of competent performance and disciplinary proceedings.

Section 6C, Board of Regents
Contains information related to the Board of Regents, which oversaw the State University System before the rewrite of the Florida Education Code in 2002. At this time, the FAC has not been updated to reflect this change, although it could be assumed that much of this will be carried over when the rewrite reflects the new Board of Governors.

This section contains rules on the organization of the Board, as well as regulations and procedures related to the business, academic and student services operations of the state's 11 universities. Each university has its own subsection of rules.

Section 6D, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind
Contains rules and regulations related specifically to the operation of this K-12 school located in St. Augustine.

Section 6E, Commission for Independent Education
Established by Chapter 1005, Florida Statutes, this chapter details rules for the administration and licensure of non-public postsecondary institutions operating in Florida.

Section 6J, Florida Institute of Phosphate Research
This section deals with the organization and operation of this research and information facility located in Bartow, which is charged with determining the impact the phosphate industry has on the state.
