Mission Statement

PALM BEACH COMMUNITY COLLEGE
EARLY CHILDHOOD (2 1/2 YRS. - 6 YRS.) MONTESSORI TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM PROVIDES:

  • a comprehensive study of Montessori philosophy and methodology, child development, and interpersonal relationships (classroom management skills, conflict resolution, parental involvement);
  • demonstration and supervised practice of lessons in all curriculum areas;
  • observation and supervised internship in an approved  Montessori  early childhood setting.

 The curriculum areas include practical life, sensorial, mathematics, language, biology and physical science, history, geography, art, music, and  movement.

 Special emphasis is placed on learning and utilizing observation skills so that the teacher may successfully follow  the lead of the child and provide opportunities for the child to engage in developmentally appropriate activities which will enable him/her to reach his/her full potential.

PALM BEACH COMMUNITY COLLEGE
MONTESSORI EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM SEEKS TO:

a) provide the highest quality Montessori training using experienced, qualified instructors at the most affordable cost to make this training accessible to students from the broadest range of socio-economic backgrounds.

b) provide students with a thorough understanding of the Montessori lessons and curriculum areas at this level while at the same time emphasizing that Montessori is child-centered, not lesson-centered.

c) provide students with a thorough understanding of child development  from Montessori's perspective, so that they will come to understand that  each child is an individual who is developing at his/her own rate.

d) provide students with the assistance they need to combine their knowledge of Montessori curriculum and Montessori's stages of development to become the caretakers of the prepared environment and the link between that environment and the child so that each  child may develop to his/her full potential.

e) provide a training schedule which allows the student the opportunity to integrate and implement, on a weekly basis, what is taught.
