Honors Student Named to the Board of Trustees - Congratulations to Eli Kinberg for being selected as the student trustee on the PBCC District Board of Trustees. He is the ninth student to serve in the position since trustees created it in 2001. To read more, click here.
Tess Bath Wins "Partners in the Park" Scholarship - PBCC honors student Tess Bath has been named as a recipient of the Florida Collegiate Honors Council "Partners in the Park" Scholarship. The scholarship will provide funds for Tess to participate in the "Partners in the Parks" program, an outdoor experiential learning program sponsored by Southern Utah University and Cedar Breaks National Monument in cooperation with the National Collegiate Honors Council. Congratulations, Tess!
Honors Student Finalist in Palm Beach International Film Festival - The short film, "The Conversation," written by honors student Gregory Goyins, has been selected as a finalist for the Student Showcase of Films at the 2009 Palm Beach International Film Festival in the Student Screenplay Competition. Goyin's screenplay was written and produced as a joint honors project in Fall 2008 for Professor John Ribar's "Knowledge Through the Ages" class and Professor Patrick Tierney's "Creative Writing" course. This is the first time that a PBCC student has been selected as a finalist in the competition. An awards ceremony is to be held Tuesday, April 28, at the Duncan Theatre on Lake Work Campus. The Showcase of Student Films will be April 26, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the Cobb Theatre in Downtown at the Gardens. Click here to read the story in Perspectives.
Dean Kohrs at PBCC - Dean Kohrs, author of Hacking College, recently visited PBCC, speaking at "Focus the Nation" on the Boca Raton campus (April 22) and to a group of honors student on the topic "Globalization and Honors" (April 23). Below, Dean offers sage advice to honors student Charise Muller.

Southern Regional Honors Conference 2009 -

Honors Students Attend Press Conference with Congressman Klein - Four PBCC Honors students were invited to attend a press conference with Congressman Ron Klein on the Klein Amendment to the Edward M. Kennedy National Service Act. The amendment will create opportunities for veterans and other volunteers to serve their fellow veterans around the country. James Rowland Elected to Executive Board of FCHC! PBCC honors student James Rowland was elected as the 2-year student representative to the executive board of the Florida Collegiate Honors Council at their annual meeting, February 20-22, 2009, in Lake Mary. As a member of the executive board, James will serve until February 2010 and will represent student concerns to the honors council. Congratulations James!

Honors Symposium - "A (Very) Brief History of Pi" Dr. Robin Jordan, Professor of Physics at Florida Atlantic University, spoke to Honors Students on March 4 at the Eissey Campus. His talk, "A (Very) Brief History of Pi," traced the history of the concept and explored the oddities associated with pi.

Sabiduria Peer-review Workshop - This spring, the Honors College will publish the inaugural edition of Sabiduria, an online, peer-review journal that will highlight the research work of PBCC students. On February 6, 2009, honors students attended a workshop where faculty members Roxanna Anderson (Psychology, South Campus), Pamela Pannozzo (Biology, Central Campus), and Honors Manager Valerie Burks discussed the process of peer-review.
