NLN Pre-Admission Nursing Examination

The NLN Pre-Admission Examination* is a nationally recognized, standardized test that provides a common basis for evaluating the academic ability of first-year Nursing students. The examination includes three multiple-choice tests: verbal ability, mathematics, and science.

The scores from the pre-admission examination will be utilized by the Limited Access Program office to determine eligibility for the applicant pool for admission to the nursing program. A minimum score of 50 will be required on this examination for direct inclusion into the applicant pool. A score of 49 or below on this examination will prohibit entrance for this period.

It is recommended, but not required, that the applicant who scores 49 or below on the NLN exam register for NUR1090 Critical Thinking in Nursing, in order to remediate before making another attempt at taking the NLN Pre-Admission Exam. This exam may be repeated every six months and a minimum score of 50 is required for admission into the Nursing Program.

Applicants are responsible for making sure scores are submitted to the Limited Access Program Office in Lake Worth. An applicant must re-apply with each attempt to gain admission into the Nursing Program as no applications are carried over from one admission period to the next. Individual scores will be assigned points according to the “Point System” described in the admissions packet. Therefore, the examination scores become one of many factors in the admissions criteria.

Students who have previously taken the NLN Pre-Admission Examination may have their scores forwarded to PBCC Attention: Limited Access Program Office upon request to the NLN. Send a money order or certified check (payable to the NLN) for $25 along with the request to NLN Test Service, 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, NY 10006. Application to take the test or to request scores may be done online at the NLN web site using a debit or credit card to secure payment. Registration and Testing Dates for 2009 and 2010 can be found by clicking on this link: Testing Dates. *Please arrive early! on the day of the test. Make sure to bring your REGISTRATION FORM that you print off of the NLN web site when you register. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT BRING THEIR REGISTRATION FORM WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE TEST. The registration form must be printed from the NLN site. A valid photo ID is also required.

*Registered applicants wishing to take the NLN Pre-Admission Test but are unable to attend the Saturday NLN test date due to traditional religious observance must notify the Lake Worth Testing Center at least 4 weeks prior to the scheduled test date. A letter stating the individual's religious affiliation on official letterhead must accompany the notification to the Lake Worth Testing Center for the individual to be eligible to test on an alternate test date. Because seating is limited on alternate test dates, this option is only available to registered applicants.

*Please note: This option is only available to applicants who have previously registered for the exam.
