Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is this program?
This program is a Montessori Teacher Training Program (MTTP) for students who would like to teach children 2 ½ to 6 years of age in a Montessori early childhood classroom.

2. Is this program the same as the A. S. degree in Early Childhood Education?
This program is 29 credits of the 63 credits needed to earn an A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education.

3.  How long does it take to complete this program?
The program can be completed in two academic years.
The first year of the program is the academic phase.
The second year of the program is the practicum phase.

4.  Is this program offered on all four PBCC campuses?
This program is only offered on the Lake Worth campus. The Lake Worth campus is the only campus which has a fully equipped Montessori early childhood classroom.

5.  Is this program ever offered during the summer?
No, this program is only offered during the fall and spring terms.

6.  Is this program ever offered during the day?
No, all classes are evening and weekend classes so that students who are working during the day may enroll in the program.

      7.  Must I have a four-year degree to receive a credential from the American
 Montessori Society?
No, those students who do not have a four-year degree and who successfully complete the program will receive an Associate credential from the American Montessori Society.  If at a later date the student completes a four-year degree, the credential can be changed to a full credential.

8.  Must I be working in a Montessori early childhood setting in order to enroll in the   
     program?
No, however, you must be working in a PBCC-approved Montessori early childhood setting for a minimum of 20 hours per week during the practicum phase of the program.

9.  What is the estimated cost of the program and must the entire fee be paid up front?
The estimated total cost of the program is $3000.00 for a Florida resident.  Tuition, fees, and book costs are paid by the semester.
