

Our Mission: "The Institute for Student Success develops academic and student services to improve student success and retention rates, specifically among students in preparatory mathematics courses." About Title III: As part of the Higher Education Act of 1965, the program helps eligible institutions of higher education become self-sufficient and expand their capacity by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability of eligible institutions. Through a five-year $1.7 million federal grant, PBCC will develop academic and student services through the following two components: - Creation of the Institute for Student Success, with the establishment of the following elements: develop comprehensive assessment for first-time-in-college (FTIC) students who test into Prep Math, develop and implement Career Ladders, Developmental Advising and Educational Planning, Student Services Series and an Early Alert System.
- Increase student academic success by developing the following elements: develop Prep Math Lab,College Algebra Refresher Workshop, Prep Math modules and modules for Prep Reading and Critical Thinking.
About the Institute for Student Success: Beginning in October 2003, PBCC created the Institute for Student Success, dedicated to increasing academic rates of student retention and student success. The Institute provides a number of intervention programs focusing on students testing into prep math. These include: - An Early Alert System to assist students experiencing problems in the classroom
- Widespread training of faculty and advisors in the philosophy and implementation of developmental advising and educational planning.
- Presentation of the prep math curriculum in a personally tailored approach addressing individual students' specific deficiencies in established areas of competency.
