LEAP was created in 1993 to help boost the number of women and minorities in senior administrative roles in higher education in Florida. It provides knowledge, skills, mentoring and networking opportunities crucial for advancement. The program accomplishes this through workshops, seminars and conferences that focus on topics important in higher education administration, including budgeting, ethical decision making, conflict resolution, the impact of new technologies and gender and race issues. LEAP scholars develop a statewide network of both community college and university contacts, practice leadership skills in group learning situations, and other activities that promote leadership skills.
