This PSAV program prepares the student for employment as a registered facial specialist— also known as estheticians or skin care specialists. The facials specialist’s job involves facials with massage, body wraps and treating skin problems, such as acne. Also hydrotherapy body treatments, hair removal services, color analysis for professional makeup services, and product sales. |

Upon completion of the licensing process, you may seek employment as an Esthetician/Facial Specialist at a salon, spa, or cosmetic surgeon’s office.

Job Outlook |
Job opportunities generally should be good. However, competition for jobs and clients at higher paying salons is expected, as applicants compete with a large pool of licensed and experienced cosmetologists for these positions. Opportunities will be best for those with previous experience and for those licensed to provide a broad range of services.

A number of factors, including the size and location of the salon, clients, tipping habits and competition from other barber shops and salons determine total income. Workers may receive commissions based on the price of the service, or a salary based on the number of hours worked, and many receive commissions on the products they sell. Earnings for entry-level workers are usually low; however, for those who stay in the profession, earnings can be considerably higher.

People-oriented nurturing personality, good people-oriented nurturing personality, good listening, interpersonal skills, and flexibility. Sensitivity, tactfulness, and patience especially for dealing with clients who may be unhappy about their appearance or with clients who have unreasonable expectations. Once you complete and pass the 260 hour program at PBCC you must submit an application to the Board of Cosmetology for Facial Specialist Registration. Continuing education seminars are important to keep up with licensing requirements and new developments in the field. |
