Career Planning Suggestions for Success Thoroughly research the occupation. Preschools, daycare centers, and other childcare programs often hire students for part-time positions as aides. There are also many volunteer opportunities for working with children. If you have not already done so, you can take the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training Certification which is required to work in a day care center. Obtain a part-time job working in a day care center or in an after school program. If you are uncertain whether you would like this type of work try volunteering in a childcare program.
