Diesel Technology (5468)

At a Glance
This PSAV program is designed to prepare the student for employment in a variety of occupations and careers found in the diesel engine/transportation industry. Student competencies to exit the program for employment are established by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF).
Employment Opportunities Upon completion of this program, you may seek employment as a Heavy/Medium Truck Technician, Fleet Mechanic, Heavy Marine Diesel Technician, Generator Repair, Heavy Equipment Repair or Parts Counterperson. Some Diesel Technicians work on heavy trucks and mobile equipment, including bulldozers, cranes, road graders, farm tractors, and combines.

Job Outlook According to Employ Florida for Palm Beach County, the number of Bus and Truck Mechanics and Diesel Engine Specialists employed in Palm Beach County in 2007 was 896. It is projected that in 2014 there will be 1035. This represents an annual average growth rate of 1.9 percent. In the next few years , it is anticipated that many European and Japanese manufacturers are going to introduce to the U.S. mallet many new vehicles equipped with Diesel Engines.
