Firefighter (5043)

For students seeking state certification as a firefighter, classes are offered on both daytime and nighttime schedules in the Fall and Spring terms of each academic year. The program follows the curriculum established by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training of the Florida State Fire College in Ocala, Florida.
Employment Opportunities Upon completion of this program, you may seek employment as a Firefighter, if you are also an EMT or Paramedic.

Earnings vary by size of city or county, experience, classification, position, and geographic location. Firefighters often work overtime which is not reflected in the information above.

Special Skills or Qualifications Needed Emotionally stable, have good eyesight and excellent physical stamina. Must be resourceful, have the ability to make decisions under stress, communicate with the public, have mechanical aptitude, a good sense of direction, and the ability to read maps and floor plans.
Career Path Notes Successful completion of this Certificate Firefighter Program allows the student to sit for the State of Florida certification examination. Certification is required for employment as a Firefighter under Florida Statute 633.
