Coach Alex Groothius (Interim Head Coach)
Coach Groothius started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Division III Brooklyn College. In 1999, BC won 16 games and advanced to the CUNY Conference Final 4.
In 2001, Alex coached overseas in Israel. He was an assistant coach for NBA coach Herb Brown (Charlotte Bobcats).
Groothius was a member of Derrick Whittenburg's staff at Wagner College. In his two years at the Staten Island school, Coach Groothius helped lead the Seahawks to an NIT birth in 2002 and the school's first ever NCAA tournament bid in 2003.
Groothius then followed Whittenburg to Fordham University of the Atlantic 10 Conference . In his 3 seasons at Forham, Coach Groothius led one of the biggest turn arounds in the nation.
In 2007, Alex was an assistant coach at Paul Robeson High School in Brooklyn, NY and in 2008 he assisted Bruce Pearl in coaching Team USA before joining the PBCC staff.
Coach Groothius has a bachelor's degree in Speech Communications from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and has currently completed 32 hours towards his Master's in Physical Education.
