Infant/Toddler Course Description:

HEO0111: Infant and Toddler Caregiving I

This course prepares infant and toddler caregivers with skills to establish high quality environments for young children. The course discusses temperaments and how to use this knowledge to work effectively with each child. Students explore the characteristics of responsive caregiving and discover ways to set up the learning environment to optimize development. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge: Child Development & Teaching & Learning; Level 2

HEO0112: Infant and Toddler Caregiving II

This course prepares infant and toddler caregivers with skills to establish high quality environments for young children. Students identify key developmental milestones. They determine how to promote language development in the young child, and they establish ways to build relationship between child, parent, and center. Total course hours 12. Core Knowledge: Building Family & Community and Teaching & Learning; Level 2

HEO0113: Learning Everyday Moments: Infant/Toddler Development

This course prepares infant and toddler caregivers with strategies to support children's growth and development across all domains: social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Students explore activities to support the child's development throughout the daily routine. Total course hours 12. Core Knowledge: Child Development: & Teaching & Learning; Level 2

HEO0115: Personal/Professional Development (Positively You)

This empowering course introduces practitioners to the county's Core Competencies for Early Childcare and Education Professionals. Students learn to take charge of their personal and professional development based on the core competencies and through the use of reflective practice they gain an awareness of personality styles, strengths and goal settings. Total course hours 12. Practitioners who enroll in this course should view the Online Core Competencies Introduction prior to the first class. Core Knowledge: Professionalism & Leadership; Level 2

HEO0156: High/Scope Infant/Toddler Overview

This course provides an overview of the High/Scope Curriculum for infants & toddlers, children ages birth to three years. Topics include: active learning, room arrangement and materials, daily routine, interaction strategies and assessment through observation. This course meets "Curriculum Specific" requirements for school readiness. Core Knowledge Area: Teaching and Learning: Levels 2 & 3

HEV0807, HEV0808, HEV0809: Caring for Children Birth to 3 years - Florida Child Care Professional Certificate (FCCPC)

This course will explain to students the FCCPC competency standards and the system of competency-based performance evaluation. The program is divided into three modules covering the thirteen functional areas in which a caregiver must demonstrate competence in order to meet the FCCPC competency standards. The course provides the 12 hours of formal instruction required for the FCCPC assessment. After students successfully complete the coursework, FCCPC will be awarded by The Department of Children & Families.

Preschool Course Description

HEO0128: Creative Curriculum Overview

This course provides an overview of the Creative Curriculum for Preschool. Topics include the Creative Curriculum goals and objectives, active learning, the structure of the day, lesson planning, constructing the physical environment, teacher strategies to support learning and assessment. Total course hours 12. Core Knowledge: Child Development and Teaching & Learning; Level 2

HEO0129: High/Scope Overview

This course provides an overview of the High/Scope approach to early childhood education for preschool practitioners. It identifies the principles of active participatory learning, reviews the preparation of an effective learning environment, daily routines, adult-child interactions and assessment of a child's development and learning. Total course hours 12. Core Knowledge: Child Development & Observing, Documenting, & Assessing; Level 2

HEO0179: Beyond Centers and Circle Time Overview

This course provides an overview of the Beyond Centers and Circle Time Curriculum for preschool practitioners. Topics include: Play and the Child, Typical and Atypical Development, and Emergent Literacy. Total course hours 12. Core Knowledge: Child Development and Observing, Documenting, & Assessing; Level 2

HEO0208: From Assessing to Planning in the Classroom

This 8 hour training is designed to give early learning practitioners understanding and knowledge of the benefits and uses of assessment and lesson planning. You will learn how to use observation, documentation, and other effective assessment strategies in a responsible way to positively influences children's development and learning. Total course hours 8. Core Knowledge: Observing, Documentation, and Assessing; Level 2-3

HEO0110: Language and Literacy for Preschoolers

This course will prepare students to develop and deliver classroom lessons focusing on academic readiness in language and literacy that are age appropriate and fun for children. Participants learn how preschool children are motivated to make meaning with symbols and words, play with and connect sounds and letters, and interact with stories to build comprehension and vocabulary. Activities are correlated with VPK Standards. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge: Child Development & Learning, and Teaching & Learning; Level 2.

HEO0131: Preschool Math & Science

This course provides students with an understanding of how preschool children acquire mathematic and scientific knowledge. Students discover how to prepare active math and science experiences using early learning standards and how to incorporate math and science throughout the daily routine. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge area: Teaching and Learning; Level 2

HEO0114: Preschool Child Development: Learning in Everyday Moments

This course prepares preschool practitioners with the knowledge and strategies to support children's growth and development across all domains: cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. Training topics have been aligned with Early Learning Standards which support practitioners in providing developmentally appropriate environments, learning opportunities, and support for young children. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge: Child Development and Learning; Level 2

HEO0132: Adult/Child Interaction: Through the Eyes of the Preschool child

This course provides knowledge and skills to support and scaffold children's play and learning through appropriate adult-child interactions. Topics include: creating a supportive climate, child observation and assessment, using encouragement to support children's efforts and conflict resolution. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge: Observing, Documenting and Assessing, and Teaching & Learning; Level 2

HEO0134: Go Kids: A Healthy Food and Fitness Program for Preschoolers

This course, designed for trainers, directors and teachers, explores the issues of childhood obesity and discusses preventive measures such as food choices and exercises. This course offers teachers easily integrated, highly interactive lessons and exercises for the classroom. The Go! Kids program includes stories, art, breathing exercises, movement, songs, yoga poses and home connection activities. Total course hours 6. Core Knowledge: Health, Safety & Nutrition; Level 2

HEO0137: Music and Creative Movement

This course is designed to offer practitioners new and exciting music and creative movement activities to do in their classrooms. This is an active learning class where practitioners will be singing and moving to the sounds of childhood. All activities will align with the Early learning Standards and provide exploration experiences for preschool children. Total course hours 8. Core Knowledge: Teaching & Learning; Level 2-3.

HEO0202: Foundations of Outcomes Driven Training

This course provides center directors and curriculum coordinators with knowledge and skills to train staff at their centers for improved staff performance, program quality and child outcomes in the child care facility. This course will cover adult learning principles as it applies to center/staff trainings and staff meetings. Total course hours: 12. Core Knowledge Professionalism & Leadership. Level 3

HEO0209: High Performing Leaders: Leadership and Management

This workshop series is designed to strengthen leadership skills and to develop peer and mentor support, and to advocate policy to support best practices in early care and education. Topics include: Personal Excellence, Professional Communication, Performance Management, Presentation Skills, Facilitative Leadership, and Achieving Extraordinary Results. Total course hours 36. Core Knowledge: Professionalism & Leadership; and Program Management & Administration; Level 2

HEO0210: High Performing Leaders: Administration

High Performing Leaders-Administration focuses on organizational change and improvement through the use of the research-based center management tools; Program Administrative Scale and Blueprint for Action. The topics include Program Evaluation, Dynamics of Organizational Change, Social Systems, and Action Planning. Participants must be working in an education setting in order to complete required assignments. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge: Program Management & Administration; Level 2.

HEO0211: High Performing Leaders: From the Inside Out

From the Inside Out is designed to help participants along a pathway to self - discovery. This course gives directors of child care centers an opportunity to reflect on where they are in their journey, understand more about their strengths, and create an action plan for greater fulfillment in personal and professional lives. Total course hours: 16 Core Knowledge: Professionalism & Leadership, and Program Management & Administration; Level 2

HEO0212: High Performing Leaders: Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning allows directors of child care facilities to examine the concepts of strategic planning as it relates to their center/school. As a result of this course, directors will increase staff involvement and participation within the organization. Directors will complete a strategic plan for their organization. Total course hours 16. Core Knowledge: Program Management and Administration; Level 2

HEO0213: High Performing Leaders: Influential Leadership for Directors

Influential Leadership focuses on assessing your unique leadership style and increasing staff involvement and commitment to your center's vision. The course will include practical suggestions for reflecting on and improving leadership skills and competencies. This course is based on the work of Paula Jorde Bloom from The Director's Toolbox series. Total course hours 24. HEO0214: HPL- Maximizing Staff Involvement

Maximizing staff involvement allows directors to focus on their decision making styles and how to increase staff participation in decision making. The course will include practical suggestions for participative management, group decision making, consensus building, managing effective meetings, and increasing staff involvement in meeting. This course is based on the work of Paula Jorde Bloom from The Director's Toolbox series. Course hours 16/1.6CEUs. Core Knowledge Area: Professionalism & Leadership; Level 2 -3

Trainer Track Course Descriptions

Trainer Approval Series Online: The Introduction

This online course is an introduction to Palm Beach County's professional development system, The Registry, The Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Professionals and outcomes driven training. This course is one of the requirements to become a Palm Beach County Registry Approved trainer and is a prerequisite for Outcomes Driven Training I.

HEO0200: Outcomes Driven Training IPrerequisite Trainer Approval Series Online: The Introduction

This 6 hour course is designed to help trainers organize their training information and materials using backward design and a specified training plan format to ensure quality trainings. Trainers also learn characteristics of the adult learner and how to deliver quality trainings based on core competencies and training standards. This course supports Palm Beach Trainer - Training Qualifications and Standards for Early Childcare and Education. This is required course to become a Palm Beach County Registry Approved Trainer.

HEO0201: Outcomes Driven Training II
Prerequisite HEO0200

This 6 hour course is designed for trainers to deliver quality trainings. Trainers will learn the barriers to training transfer, the use of active training techniques, the use of training aids, learning styles and creating and maintaining effective learning environments. This course supports Palm Beach County Trainer - Training Qualifications and Standards for Early Childcare and Education. This is required course to become a Palm Beach County Registry Approved Trainer.
