~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. The College Relations and Marketing department has launched PBCC's official MySpace page! This page delivers up-to-date information via bulletins, blogs, and messages and provides a great networking tool for students. There are direct links to PBCC's home page that include: events, theaters, athletics, libraries, clubs and "cool stuff to know" which links to different services offered at PBCC that students may not know are available. Students can also join groups related to their areas of study to use a discussion board and get to know their classmates. The MySpace page also includes and interactive blog tool.
Visit www.myspace.com/palmbeachcommunitycollege to view the page.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. Did you know that there are over 300 programs of study available at the colleges and universities in Florida? That doesn't even include vocational/technical programs available at community colleges and technical schools! With so many choices, it can be overwhelming. If you are undecided about your major, then why not consider attending one of the Career Center's Exploring College & Career Options workshops? Workshops last 1 ½ hours and are scheduled regularly at the Boca Raton, Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens campuses. Pre-registration is required. After logging into Panthernet select "information" from the menu, then click on "Exploring College and Career Options." For more information, contact the Career Centers at www.pbcc.edu/career.xml.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Palm Beach Community College opened the College-wide Counseling Center this month. The new center was established to provide personal counseling to all PBCC students. The center is staffed by a licensed clinical social worker as well as students in the Clinical Counseling and Social Work programs at Barry University and Florida Atlantic University.
Individual, couples and group counseling sessions are available for such issues as substance abuse, domestic violence, depression, stress and anger management.
Please call 561-868-3980 or walk in to schedule an appointment in BK-110 (next to the bookstore) at the Lake Worth campus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Plan Ahead! Be sure to make an appointment to see an academic advisor for course selection and educational planning. Before you know it, registration for summer classes will be starting. You can access advising contact information at www.pbcc.edu/advising.xml.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Haven't registered yet for Spring classes or you need an additional class. Go to www.pbcc.edu/pantherweb.xml to register for the 12-week classes starting in February or the last 8-week classes starting in March.
