Some of PBCC's academic priorities include:
Renewable Energy
PBCC is taking the lead in refining curriculum to train today's workforce in technologies that will create tomorrow's energy resources. Renewable energy from Florida-grown crops, agricultural wastes and residues and other biomass is being explored through a grant to the College's Sugar Technology Institute and developing institutes in bioscience. Secondary and post-secondary students will learn from chemists and professors in this fast-growing agricultural area.
Bioscience
Based on educated estimates, Florida's biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry will generate $2.1 billion in government revenue by 2020. PBCC is addressing the most pressing needs of local business and industry by training well qualified bio-technicians with intensive hands-on experience, ready to perform in a demanding environment.
Math & Science Institute
PBCC is committed to excellence in math and science with the Math & Science Institute. The curriculum includes:
- Creation of a program in response to needs of the biotechnology business/industry.
- State-of-the-art science facilities at the Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens campuses.
- Accessibility of math and science to all students by providing supplementary instruction, peer tutoring, math labs and summer programs designed to attract those not initially interested pursuing degrees in math and science related fields.
- Development of a Math and Science Honors College track for eligible high-achieving students.
