Technical Education Center -- Belle Glade campus
Palm Beach Community College at Belle Glade broke ground in November 2008 on a major education project. When completed in early 2010, the new 21,259-square-foot Technical Education Center will house programs in agricultural sciences, criminal justice, and construction trades, including drafting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, welding, heavy bus/truck mechanic and electrical. Strategically located in the heart of the sugar industry, it will also house the Sugar Technology Institute, offering the only sugar technology degree in the United States.
The Technical Education Center is a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) registered project anticipating Silver LEED certification. “Green” elements of the project include: natural day lighting through the use of light tubes, selection of materials with a high recycled content, modeled to be 25% more energy efficient over baseline ASHRAE 90.1, and will serve as a public hurricane shelter.
