Jana Newton

Jana Newton's lesson plans focus on hands-on learning and integrate reading and writing as well as a variety of reused and found objects.

Her impressive resume includes: Toussaint L'Ouverture Highschool of the Arts and Social Justice Jana Newton began teaching at TLHS at the end of the school year 2002. 2000 Northwood Business Development Corporation WPB, Fl.

As the arts coordinator, she worked to create art projects for low-income and minority children from the Northwood neighborhood, West Palm Beach, Florida. 1998 Pine grove Elementary School of the Arts Delray Beach, Fl. Artist in residence.

Designed original arts integrated classroom projects for kindergarten and first grade. Lesson plans designed with an emphasis on multi-cultural themes. Art projects created with an emphasis on boosting self-esteem, combined with a positive management approach. Classroom projects integrate recycled materials and natural, found objects. 1973-2003 Business owner, "Atlantian Dreams" Boca Raton, Florida. Buyer, designer and manufacturer of wearable art jewelry. Director of marketing retail and wholesale accounts. Publisher of" Spotlight on the Arts" and informational brochures. Dimensional artwork produced includes: mixed media, stain glass, dolls.

Education 1979 Highland High school Albuquerque, New Mexico Graduated Highland High School. Graduated Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute two degrees. Two years college University of New Mexico Interests: *Community activist: 2000-2003-President of the Citizen's Alliance for traffic Calming (C.A.T.C.) for the city of Boca Raton, Florida *Studying Native American art and singing Native music from all over the world. *Jana is interested in developing unique lesson plans based on the beliefs and stories from cultures all over the world, and throughout history.

AWARDS:

  • Feb.1st,2003-"Most Creative and Accurate Depiction of a Culture" Award given to Toussaint L'Ouverture High School for the Arts and Social Justice from the city of West Palm Beach.
  • Jana Newton was the artistic designer and director of the building of a Tanzanian Village.
  • March 1991- "Best Jewelry of Show" Meet me Downtown, Boca Raton
  • Nov. 1992-"Honorable Mention"- Promenade in the Park, Ft. Lauderdale
  • July 1994-"Best of Show"- Bele Chere. Asheville, North Carolina.
  • In addition to all of her work with children Jana has Published Articles:

  • Dec.1985- "Florida Gold Coast Magazine" As well as a Published Book-
  • July 1995- Several designs featured in Lark Publishing Co. book by Carol Taylor- "Beaded Jewelry".
