To celebrate National Library Week and the importance of reading- PBCC Library is honored to again take part in the READ poster project. Last year’s celebrities included Dr. Dennis Gallon, PBCC President. To view this year’s crop of local celebrity readers, please visit our online slideshow. "Research findings in applied linguistics and reading research consistently show a strong correlation between reading proficiency and academic success at all ages, from the primary school right through to university level: students who read a lot and who understand what they read usually attain good grades." So how do I participate? Pick a background from below, have someone take your picture holding your favorite book and send in it to kelley@pbcc.edu or simply bring it by the LLRC Director’s office on the second floor of the library. If you need assistance with the guidelines below, call the library director’s office to set up an appointment to have your photo taken. It should not take more than 5 minutes. Here are the guidelines for taking the photo: - Photos must be 300 Dots Per Inch or larger. This will make the file over 1MB easily. Do not compress this at all.
- Photos should be at least 5 inches wide.
- Photos must be a JPG file.
- There must be a solid color background behind the subject. White or blue backgrounds are preferred.
- The subject's head should be less than 1/2 of the frame size.
- Good lighting is necessary. Try to avoid shadows.
- Take more than one photo with different lighting.
How to pose the subject: - The subject's pose should go with the background.
- A dramatic pose can be fun. Please keep arms and hands within the frame.
- Standing poses are great too. Be sure to look our examples. Or visit the American Library Association's examples.
- If the subject is too far away from the camera, we may have trouble using it in the poster.
- Hold the book so that the viewer can easily read the title.
- Take more than one photo with different poses.
- Smile if you like. Have fun.
Sending the photo to us: - Be sure not to compress the file.
- The photo must be sent through email as actual size.
- The file must be larger than 300 Dots Per Inch even when attaching it to an email.
