Energy conservation can reduce the need for new power plants and energy imports. If we reduce energy consumption and demand, it may offset the need for increased energy production to keep up with growth. Not only will this reduce the rise in energy costs, but the reduced energy demand can provide more flexibility in choosing an energy source that emits the least amount of CO2 (the major contributor to greenhouse gas) such as solar, wind, biomass, etc.
