Blackboard Faculty Training

We are excited to provide training opportunities for PBCC faculty and staff. Our faculty trainers will instruct and provide guidance during each workshop. All dates and times are provided below as well as registration instructions.

Blackboard Faculty Tutorials
Before you attend the workshops, learn the features of Blackboard at your own pace! View the tutorials in sequential order, or jump to a particular topic using the clickable course menu. Whether you are just getting started with Blackboard or a veteran at online teaching in need of a review, these tutorials are here for you.


Workshop Participation Requirements

Completion of the two workshops listed below is required for instructors wishing to teach any PBCC Hybrid or Online courses. Faculty with existing Level 3 certification are exempt from required participation; however, are highly encouraged to attend. All faculty not Level 3 certified before July 1, 2009 are required to complete both Workshops by the beginning of the Fall 2010 term in order to be eligible to instruct Hybrid or Online courses as of Fall 2010 and thereafter.

Workshop I - Blackboard Tools and Instructional Content Delivery
The purpose of this workshop is to make faculty aware of Blackboard (Bb) capabilities. Participants will have an opportunity to examine a well-designed course to gain an understanding of effective Bb tool usage, course content delivery options and online instructional strategies.

  • Trainers will demonstrate the function and effective instructional strategies for major Bb Tools.
  • Trainers will showcase various content delivery options.
  • Participants will learn how to incorporate instructional Bb Tools into a course site.
  • Participants will learn to modify major instructional Bb Tools to incorporate effective instructional strategies.

Workshop II -- The Pedagogy of Online Instruction
The purpose of this workshop is to present effective online teaching and learning principles. Participants will explore effectively layered lessons containing multimedia content delivery, interactive components, assessments and demonstrable outcomes. Best teaching practices will be demonstrated and participants will be engaged in discussions related to the following objectives:

  • How to plan courses to meet student needs.
  • Identifying the teaching or learning objectives to be achieved choosing the technology tools that make the goals achievable.
  • Organizing learning activities around demonstrable outcomes embedded in each lesson.
  • Incorporating medium/media that is effectual, accessible to students and receptive to different learning styles.
  • Layering lessons with interactions and assessments.
  • Selecting tool options based on teaching and learning objectives.

Design and Tutoring for Blackboard

Need some final touches for your courses? Need help with course tools and design? Contact the E-Learning Department @ 561.868.3762 or elearning@pbcc.edu-- or stop by on the Lake Worth Campus in LL 103.

Other Options needed?

  • Cannot come to campus and want to learn how to use Blackboard Tools? Click here for web tutorials.
  • Receive one-on-on assistance. Instructional Designers are available by phone, email or personal meeting in LL 103 on the Lake Worth Campus (appointments are encouraged). Hours are limited. Email elearning@pbcc.edu or call 561-868-3762 to schedule an appointment.

How do I self-register for any of the above workshops?
If you don't see the classes listed on the Employee Web site (perhaps due to date limitations), send me an email and I will be happy to register you - let me know your name, class and date of interest.

Follow these steps:

  • From the college's homepage - click on Faculty / Staff Resources
  • Click on Employee Web and logon with your network logon information
  • Select Personal (yellow bar)
  • Select Professional Development
  • Select Register and in the Activity Type: Select Distance Learning (you can see all offerings and can Enroll)
  • To register for specific listings:
    Select Bb Tools & Instruc. Cont. Delv - for Workshop1 offerings
    OR
    Select The Pedagogy of Online Instruc - for Workshop2 offerings
  • Select Enroll
  • If seats are available you will be enrolled. If seats are not available, you will be waitlisted for the class. You can also withdraw if your schedule changes.
