Apprenticships at PBCC

Electrician imagePalm Beach Community College trains more than 1000 students annually in 10 registered apprenticeship building trades programs. The training is accomplished through partnership agreements with local apprenticeship sponsors who provide on-the-job training as well as related classroom instruction for the 3-5 years it takes, depending on the occupation, to complete the program.

Plumber imageClassroom and lab instruction take place both on the Lake Worth campus (in the new Education and Training Center) and off campus at local apprenticeship sponsor training sites. The training is a combination of 2000 hours on-the-job training and 144 hours of related technical and theoretical instruction annually, per program. Each of the 10 apprenticeship programs contribute to local industry by promoting a skilled, competent workforce with high wage jobs.

Carpenter imageUpon program completion, students receive a Florida Department of Education Certificate and are recognized world-wide as journey workers. Palm Beach Community College awards students who complete their apprenticeship a Post Secondary Adult Vocational Training Certificate. In addition, Palm Beach Community College has developed an articulation process for journey workers to receive 24 credits toward the Industrial (Operations) Management AAS degree.

Registered apprenticeship training programs not only positively impact Palm Beach County’s workforce demands but also allow over 1000 students to enjoy full-fledged taxpayer status. Apprentices of today become business and industry leaders of tomorrow.
