PBCC faculty are using technology to shorten the distance between the student and the traditional classroom environmen t.
By using technology to help deliver the classroom experience to a student’s computer, iPod or other mobile device, the audio and visual interactions necessary for learning are becoming more accessible to distance learners. Palm Beach Gardens campus Professor Nancy McDonald is using “vodcasting” (video podcasting) to replace the face-to-face “orientation” that is not always possible for her distance learning students. Professor McDonald’s expectations are explained in her vodcast when she assures her distance students that “my students do very well because I try to help you succeed. Just be aware that if you do what I ask, and you do the best you can, knowing full well that some people do things better than others, because we have gifts in different areas, you’re probably going to succeed with an A in my class”. Working with Nancy McDonald has been a “great pleasure” according to Jeannine Burgess, Director of Instructional Technology. “Nancy cares deeply about helping her students be successful, in their classes and in their lives”. Congratulations to Professor McDonald from the Instructional Technology team!
