The philosophy of the Palm Beach Community College Visual and Performing Arts Programs is to inspire our students
to actively pursue Design and Performance Excellence, while creating a climate of learning and discovery, and preparing
them for success in a professional environment.  Also, to provide a clearer understanding of the human condition and
our struggle to find meaningful and positive connection in an increasingly diverse and polarized global community.

Here are answers to some commonly asked questions by new students.
1. How do I go about getting involved in plays and club activities?
        a. Auditions dates, times and requirements are posted on this website:
Auditions and Season Schedule
        b. To join the PBCC Players Club, just show up for a meeting and get started:  PBCC Players
2. As a first semester Freshman, what courses in Theatre should I take?
       a. Theatre Appreciation (THE 1000) is a required Gen-Ed course, so take that first.
It is also the pre-requisite for most other Theatre courses.
       b. Freeing the Actor's Voice (TPP 2700) is designed for first semester students to take while enrolled in Appreciation.
3. Can the
Theatre Appreciation (THE 1000) pre-requisite be waived, so students can begin in Acting I?
       a. No. There are reasons pre-requisites are in place. Only for transfer students can waiving this pre-req be considered.
       b. Again, that is why the Voice class is is in place, to get Thetare students started.
4. Do I get credit for being involved in mainstage productions?
       a. Absolutely. If you audition for and are cast in a production, you can then sign up for Rehearsal & Performance (TPP 2190r) for 1 credit.
       b. If you are not cast, you can still work on the show as a technician and sign up for Play Production (THE 2925r), also for 1 credit.

c. Theatre Majors! You need to work on or perofrm in a minimum of 3 productions during your 2 years at PBCC,
because you will need anyweher frmo 9-12 of these 1 credits productions courses for you BA or BFA at the university level.
5. Should I audition if I have no experience?
       a. Yes! Yes! Yes! How else will you get started. The majority of our students have little or no formal training,
so we approach all productions as teaching and learning opportunities. By the time a show opens, you will be ready!
6. What do I do after getting my AA at PBCC?
       a. You should schedule an appointment with Tony Tassa (561) 868-3316 at your earliest convenience to plan your years at PBCC,
and discuss your future plans. Don't wait! We need to be certain you are taking the right courses, so you can graduate and move on.
       b. Most of our students continue to FAU or other Florida Universities to complete their training. We have also placed
several students at other major universities and training programs upon graduating. Currently, we have approx. 6
at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC.
7. Are Scholarships available?
       a. Yes, they are. Go to the following link to find out more: Scholarships
8. Is there someone who can answer my program specific questions?
       a. Contact Tony Tassa at (561) 868-3316, or by e-mail at tassaa@pbcc.edu  any time!
